TAMPA, FL – EventFest, Inc. and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla are proud to welcome American Idol finalist Shannon MaGrane to the 2016 McDonald’s® Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza. This alcohol-free kick-off event to Tampa’s historic Gasparilla celebration is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2016 along Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa.
Singer songwriter recording artist and former American Idol finalist Shannon Magrane, was honored to be asked by the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla to create its theme songs. Shannon collaborated with her team to create a tribute to 100 years of Gasparilla. Catch Shannon on YMKG’s new “SKULL & TREASURE” float at the Children’s Gasparilla Parade this Saturday, singing her new song “YMKG GASPARILLA Rilla.”
The Krewe’s new “SKULL ‘n TREASURE” float immediately follows their Royal float in this year’s Children’s Gasparilla Parade, and is unit number 15b. This new float is the most complex float Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla has ever constructed. This 44’ work of art was crafted for two years by three in-house artists and engineers, together with a host of finishing airbrushers. It holds some 75 ugly YMKG pirates, and features an open mouthed pirate skull with a waterfall pouring into a pirate lagoon. It even blasts smoke out into the crowd!
On each side, carefully detailed parchment maps send would-be treasure hunters to a hidden lagoon of unrivaled riches. If you look closely inside the open mouth of the skull, you will see a fortunate pirate rotating on a priceless bed of gold and jewels. In one hand he holds the “X” that marked the spot where he found the treasure. In his other hand, he holds his pistol to ward off any unwelcome souls who might try to relieve him of his new-found riches. He evidently ran into trouble, because the flip side shows his skeleton mysteriously chained to the grotto wall.
“The McDonald’s® Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza has grown to be recognized as one of the nation’s premier family events, and is now recognized as the largest children’s parade in the country” said Darrell Stefany, President of EventFest, Inc. “Tampa has enjoyed Gasparilla for generations, and we are delighted Tampa’s own Shannon MaGrane is joining in this year’s fun and singing the praises of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and their 100 plus year history of Gasparilla festivities in our Community.”

Following another successful “attack” that the invading pirates have won since 1904, the City of Tampa is “defenseless” and the stage is set for a smooth and festive Gasparilla Invasion by the pirates of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla on the following Saturday (January 30, 2016).
The musical soundtrack which accompanies the “Piratechnic” Extravaganza is played over concert-quality speakers near Show Center at Howard and Bayshore.
